The only reason Blender is not LTS is because of the crazy point release cycle. If they only did point releases every two months, that would be much more manageable. Maybe even just having a few point releases every six months. After all, it is not perfect yet, it’s still a alpha release. They should still be able to get new features into LTS and dev versions.

I don’t think it’s a great idea but I don’t think it’s that much of a problem. For one thing, Blender’s release model is changing very, very slowly. Blender’s release model is also unlike most software. People have been asking for a LTS Blender for a long time, but it’s still in early development.

If you are on an LTS release, yes. The new version will be built into one. With Blender 2.68, that happened. But we have released new versions just before the LTS releases and also those were built into the LTS version.

But it’s a point in time thing. Blender is in a fluid state at the moment with lots of new features getting introduced regularly, and with v3.5 and v3.6 being on the horizon, it would be strange to release a new version with all that stuff in the process of getting implemented. Look at the GitHub activity for version 3.6. So why not just stick with v3.6 at the moment?

Your proposal is better for scientific communities like me. Means, I use Blender for my PhD. As you can imagine, I have a rough guideline, for which Blender version should be released. For people like me, your proposal is better then releasing a Blender version and asking me again and again, which Blender version should be released. I hate it.
With the new Blender version, Blender will only be for the scientific community, to use the Blender version for technical work is just a pain in the ass. Ton
